Early identification of learning delays is a priority. Once identified, students are supported through a range of intervention strategies, providing a safety-net. Education Queensland has initiatives to identify and support students who require additional assistance through the Year 2 Diagnostic Net, the Years 3, 5 and 7 Testing Progam, the Appraisment process (for students with learning difficulties) and Education Adjustment Program (for students with recognised disabilities). The school is further supported by visiting specialists including Guidance Officer, Speech Language Pathologist, Advisory Visiting Teachers, English as a Second Language teachers.

Many of the students' difficulties are often transitory in that, given appropriate early learning experiences, they are able to catch up with their peers. Some of these children, however, need multiple interventions over a number of years to cope with the literacy and literacy demands of their classrooms.

Learning Support

Special Education Program
The Boondall Special Education Program (SEP) was first introduced at Boondall State School in 2008. The program supports students who have been diagnosed with an Intellectual Impairment, Speech Language Impairment or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Each student is supported through an Individual Education Plan and Education Adjustment Profile in consultation with parents, class teachers and other specialists such as the Guidance Officer and Speech Language Pathologist.
The Special Education Teacher works collaboratively with class teachers to plan and implement modified curriculum activities which support the student’s learning.
Student learning is also supported through small group and/or individual activities within the Special Education room.
Boondall State School supports students with diagnosed Physical, Visual and Hearing Impairments through specialist Advisory Visiting Teachers.
